The Swallowed Anchor

Updated: Nov 10, 2021

Everyone will remember with a smile and a melancholy tear the white stucco-clad house at 464 Head Street, located on the eastern side of West Bay’s ”Triangle Lands”

The little house was called the Swallowed Anchor and was owned by John Keziere. Keziere moved into the house in the ‘70s after his wife passed away and over the following quarter-century made the place into the folk-art masterpiece and amazing tourist attraction that residents of the community came to know and love.

Owners of Hidden Harbour Marina across the street, Jim and Carole Witter, attempted unsuccessfully to save the house from demolition. While unsuccessful, they did however manage to rescue much of the wonderful folk art that is John Keziere’s legacy to the community.

Pictures being better than one thousand words, feast your eyes and shed a tear for the unique masterpiece that was. Photos generously supplied by Toad Hollow Photography
